Video Therapy Solutions

I hold two Master's degrees, one in Criminal Justice, and one in Counseling. I started working in community mental health in 1991, and have been doing counseling in a variety of settings ever since. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado in 2007. I have been in private practice since 2002.

Currently, my focus is on helping people to resolve trauma. My interest is in helping people thrive, and develop a new life story. I especially enjoy working with women, and have enjoyed learning how to work with Dissociative Identity Disorder over the past several years. I have developed a group therapy program that has been highly effective in working with women who have DID. I do work with other types of trauma though, especially women with post-traumatic stress disorder due to domestic violence. Complications arising from PTSD can be seen in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. While I do not limit my practice to these areas, trauma therapy is my area of interest and expertise.

My counseling philosophy is best described as person-centered. I believe that through a therapeutic relationship with a trusted counselor, people can and will make lasting change. I have been trained in the following methods; gestalt therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive therapy, and somatic experiencing. I believe in incorporating creativity in the healing process, and this is a way I can tailor our therapy to fit you and your process.

In using narrative therapy, I generally write you a session letter after each visit or call, and we review this letter when we meet for our next session. This is a way to document change for you, as well as share my perceptions with you in a meaningful and personal way. For more on narrative therapy, please feel free to contact me and I can suggest books on the topic. Michael White was a leader in the field of narrative therapy until he passed away earlier this year.

Somatic experiencing is a technique developed by Peter Levine where trauma is discharged from the body while using the body's cues as a guide.

I like to use a combination of approaches and tailor them to your unique personality and situation. I will develop a treatment plan with you in your initial session and answer questions about my approach.

I am constantly amazed at my clients, and their strength, courage, and resiliency. I tell everyone I see in therapy that those who have the strength to ask for help are the healthy ones. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you as you discover a path to lasting change.

An individual session costs $90 for 50 minutes (this includes sessions done by Skype, phone or in person). Groups are generally billed at $40 per hour per client. Family and couples sessions are billed at $110 for 50 minutes. Longer sessions can be arranged. I am able to accept most insurance plans. If your insurance plan has an "out of network benefit" than I am able to bill it. I prefer to have you submit claims to your insurance company for reimbursement and to pay me for services at the time they are rendered; but in special situations, I will work out another arrangement. I do take self-pay clients, and have some ability to do a sliding fee scale. Just ask and I will be happy to give you more information.
